AgentSearch MCP server: web search, extract and render

The AgentSearch MCP server, npx -y @agentsearchhq/agentsearch-mcp, gives Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and any stdio MCP host three web tools: search, URL-to-markdown extract and headless render. Search is free with no key (up to 25 searches/day per IP, shared daily capacity), and extract and render cost $0.005 per call in USDC on Base via x402.

Install

Paste one block, restart your client, and web search works. No key or wallet needed.

Paid mode: add a wallet key to enable Extract and Render

    }
  }
}

Restart the client after saving. Node.js 20 or later is required. Claude Desktop config lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS and %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json on Windows. One-click: Add to Cursor / Install in VS Code.

Free vs paid

Default

Nothing set: free search

Search uses the free AgentSearch relay. Free tier: up to 25 searches/day per IP, no key needed (shared daily capacity; paid calls have no cap). Extract and Render return a setup message and make no network call.

Paid

AGENTSEARCH_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY set

Search, Extract and Render go through the Pocket Network Agentic Portal and pay $0.005 per call in USDC on Base over x402. No account, API key or ETH for gas. Use a new wallet holding only what you are willing to spend.

Limits

Spending caps checked before signing

Never more than $0.005 per call. A session cap of $1.00 by default (AGENTSEARCH_MAX_TOTAL_ATOMIC, in USDC atomic units). It signs only USDC on Base for the portal's payee and the three AgentSearch services. See pricing.

Where it is listed

The AgentSearch MCP server is listed on Smithery, Glama, npm and the official MCP Registry (io.github.agentsearchhq-coder/agentsearch-mcp). Source: GitHub. Also works: Pocket's Agentic Portal MCP, npx -y @pocket-network/agentic-portal-mcp, with call_service on the three AgentSearch services.

FAQ

How do I add web search to Claude Desktop or Cursor?

Add an agentsearch entry with "command": "npx" and "args": ["-y", "@agentsearchhq/agentsearch-mcp"] to your MCP config and restart the client. The agentsearch_web_search tool then works with no key.

Is the AgentSearch MCP server free?

Search is free with no key or wallet. Free tier: up to 25 searches/day per IP, no key needed (shared daily capacity; paid calls have no cap). Extract and Render cost $0.005 per call in USDC on Base via x402 once you set a wallet key.

Do I need an API key?

No. Free search needs nothing. Paid calls are paid per request from a wallet you set in AGENTSEARCH_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY, with no account or API key.

Which MCP clients does it work with?

Any client that can launch a local stdio MCP server, including Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Claude Code. It needs Node.js 20 or later.

What happens when the free limit is reached?

The relay answers HTTP 429 and the tool explains how to switch to paid. The limit resets daily.

How do I cap spending in paid mode?

The server never signs more than $0.005 per call and stops at a session cap, $1.00 by default. Set AGENTSEARCH_MAX_TOTAL_ATOMIC (USDC atomic units, 1000000 = $1.00) to change it.
