AgentSearch Web Search, Web Extract and Web Render each cost $0.005 per call, paid in USDC on Base via x402, with no account, plan or API key. Search also has a free tier: up to 25 searches/day per IP, no key needed (shared daily capacity; paid calls have no cap).
Prices
Every service is priced per call. There is no subscription, minimum or monthly plan.
Runs a JavaScript page in headless Chromium and returns markdown, text, HTML, links and an optional screenshot
What is and isn't charged
You pay only for answers that were delivered.
Charged ($0.005)
Any HTTP 2xx answer
A delivered call is charged, including HTTP 200 answers whose body carries an error object because the target website failed: for example TARGET_HTTP_ERROR, TARGET_TIMEOUT, UNSUPPORTED_CONTENT, TARGET_BOT_WALL or a partial-content TARGET_DEADLINE. Search upstream errors that return 200 with empty results are charged too.
Not charged
Any non-2xx answer
Non-2xx answers are not settled: 402 (unpaid request), 400 INVALID_REQUEST, SSRF_BLOCKED or URL_NOT_ALLOWED, 413 REQUEST_TOO_LARGE, 422 ROBOTS_DISALLOWED (Render refuses before fetching; through the portal it shows as 400 UPSTREAM_REJECTED), 422 TARGET_DEADLINE with nothing rendered, 429 rate limits and 5xx errors.
Worked examples
What a task costs
One search: $0.005. A page Extract can read: $0.005. Extract, then a Render fallback on the same URL: $0.01. A research task capped at 12 calls: at most $0.06. $1 of USDC covers 200 calls.
Free tier: up to 25 searches/day per IP, no key needed (shared daily capacity; paid calls have no cap). The free tier covers Web Search only, with up to 5 results per search. It needs no account, API key or wallet. The limit resets daily, and past it the relay answers HTTP 429. Extract and Render have no free tier.
Payment is per request, in USDC on Base via x402, through the Pocket Network Agentic Portal. The agent pays from its own wallet instead of sending an API key.
Easiest
MCP server with a wallet key
Add npx -y @agentsearchhq/agentsearch-mcp to your MCP client and set AGENTSEARCH_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY to a new wallet holding a little USDC on Base. It pays $0.005 per call automatically and never signs more than $0.005 per call or more than the session cap ($1.00 by default). No ETH is needed for gas.
1. POST unpaid to the portal endpoint and get HTTP 402 with x402 v2 terms in the PAYMENT-REQUIRED header. 2. Sign an EIP-3009 TransferWithAuthorization for 5000 USDC atomic units ($0.005) on Base with an x402 client such as @x402/core + @x402/evm. 3. Repeat the same request once with PAYMENT-SIGNATURE. 4. HTTP 200 returns {"portal": …, "data": …}, with the receipt in PAYMENT-RESPONSE.
The framework packages search free by default. For the Python packages, install the [paid] extra (for example pip install "langchain-agentsearch[paid]") and set AGENTSEARCH_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY to enable paid search, Extract and Render. MPP on Tempo is also accepted by the portal.
Web Search, Web Extract and Web Render each cost $0.005 per call in USDC on Base via x402. There is no account, subscription, minimum or API key.
Is there a free tier?
Yes, for Web Search only. Free tier: up to 25 searches/day per IP, no key needed (shared daily capacity; paid calls have no cap). Use POST https://relay.agentsearchhq.com/v1/search or the MCP server npx -y @agentsearchhq/agentsearch-mcp with no wallet key.
Am I charged when a call fails?
Only HTTP 2xx answers are charged. Non-2xx answers such as 402, 400, 413, 422 robots.txt refusals, 429 and 5xx are not settled. A 200 answer whose body reports a target-site error, such as a 404 from the website, was delivered and is charged.
How do I pay without an API key?
Your agent pays each request from a wallet. An unpaid request returns HTTP 402 with the price; an x402 client signs a USDC payment on Base and retries with the PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header. The AgentSearch MCP server and the framework packages can do this for you when you set AGENTSEARCH_WALLET_PRIVATE_KEY.
Do I need ETH for gas?
No. You need a little USDC on Base in a wallet made for this. The x402 facilitator pays the gas.
Can I cap spending?
Yes. The AgentSearch MCP server never signs more than $0.005 per call and stops at a session cap, $1.00 by default, set with AGENTSEARCH_MAX_TOTAL_ATOMIC. In your own code, count delivered calls and stop at a hard budget.
